Program on Food Aid and Promotion of Healthy Nutrition
The Institute of Preventive Medicine Environmental and Occupational Medicine, Prolepsis, with the donation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, will implement, during the school year 2012-2013, a Program on Food Aid and Promotion of Healthy Nutrition for students of elementary and secondary schools in underprivileged areas. In an effort to deal with the reported and intensifying food shortage problems that students of many schools face but also to reinforce healthy nutrition and promote health in general, the program, will provide students with a daily, healthy meal through school canteens. During the program informative events and activities for both parents and students will, also, be organized.
The program, which involves 100 schools around the country with a total of 18,000 students, is coordinated by the Prolepsis scientific team, in collaboration with the Athens Medical School and volunteers. Volunteers can support the implementation of the program by participating actively in many activities, such as preparation of informational material (preparation of folders to be distributed to parents and students), administrative support of informative events, monitoring of program implementation in the provinces, distribution of informational material in schools, etc.
