Press Conference entitled “Rural Population and Avian Influenza: Guidelines for Protection”

Within the context of the new information campaign for the protection against avian influenza, the Prolepsis Institute organizes, with the kind support of ATEBANK, a press conference entitled "Rural Population and Avian Influenza: Guidelines for Protection". The conference will take place on Thursday, 29 January at 12p.m. in the Foreign Press Association of Greece, 23 Akademias street, Athens.

October 24, 2008: International Day against Obesity

The international day against obesity is celebrated on the 24th of October and with this opportunity the Institute of Preventive Medicine Environmental and Occupational Health, Prolepsis has issued this press release informing the public about this serious public health threat and also providing information on a relevant European project titled "Guidelines for the Prevention of Obesity at the Workplace"-The GPOW project.

Event entitled “Lifelong Learning and Health”

Prolepsis presented the results of two projects concerning health promotion for vulnerable population groups, such as the elderly and illiterate, during a successful information function that took place on September 30, 2008, one day before the international day of senior citizens. The projects were co-funded by the European Commission.

The European population is aging every day. It is estimated that in 2050, 173 million people in Europe will be 65 years and older making the population of senior citizens double to that of children in Europe.

New book titled “Promoting Health for Working Women”

Associate Professor Athena Linos of the Medical School of the University of Athens and Professor Wilhelm Kirch of the University of Dresden have edited a new book published by Springer Publications titled "Promoting Health for Working Women". The book is the end result of an EU funded project which also received funding from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation the HPROWOMEN project - Development of Education and Training Tool for Workplace Health Promotion focusing on Women.

June 5, 2008: World Environment Day

World Environment Day is celebrated each year on June 5th. The theme of the World Environment Day this year is climate change and especially the transition to a low carbon economy and lifestyle. New Zealand, and specifically Wellington, will host the international celebrations for this day with the slogan "Kick the CO2 Habit. Towards a low carbon economy". Recognising that climate change is becoming a very important issue of our era, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) encourages countries, companies and communities to focus on greenhouse gas emissions and ways to reduce them.
