April 7, 2008: World Health Day
On April 7, 1948, the World Health Organization is established within the United Nations and is focused on themes that concern public health. WHO celebrates this day, every year, as World Health Day, which is dedicated to a topic of great importance to health globally.
This year, which signifies the 60th Anniversary of the creation of WHO, World Health Day is dedicated to the protection of public health from the effects of climate change. By selecting this theme, WHO underlines the fact that climate change constitutes a major threat to public health. Aim of the World Health Day 2008 is to encourage debate regarding the effects of climate change on public health and the best practices of safeguarding it. |
