Seminars on “Health in All Policies (HiAP)”
Improving societal health and well being, and reducing levels of health inequity cannot be achieved by the health system alone. All policy sectors that affect health, for example the employment, financial and environmental sectors, must actively contribute to improving health or consider and optimize their health impacts. Therefore creating synergies between different sectors is vital. It requires, though, skills and specific knowledge.
The European project “Crossing Bridges -Developing methodologies and building capacity to advance the implementation of “Health in All Policies” and achieve health equity”, in which Prolepsis participates as an associate partner, aims to improve European citizens’ health and alleviate health inequalities through the active cooperation of different policy sectors, other than health on a national, regional and local level.
In the framework of the project and its implementation in Greece, seminars on “Health in All Policies (HiAP)” were organized on March 16th and April 10th, 2012, at the premises of Prolepsis Institute. The seminars, that brought together health professionals from the wider public sector, aimed to inform participants, promote the debate and offer opportunities for practice on key issues. During the seminars, the principles of “Health in All Policies” were discussed and the “Health Map” was presented. Finally, examples of good practice of “Health in All Policies” were mentioned, such as the development of cycling lanes.
“Eurohealthnet”, which is based in Brussels, is the project coordinator while there are 14 other associate partners involved in the project. It is co-funded by the E.U. while in Greece it is implemented with the kind support of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO).
